Can Dust in My Laptop Affect the Processor and Speed?

My laptop I admit is a mess with dust and crumbs etc. of 2 years accumulation both inside and outside it. It's an XP, Core 2 Duo, with 4GBs of memory and 80 gigs hard drive.

I was planning to eventually get it cleaned but when I mentioned to the guy at the local computer repair store how the laptop seems to not be running as good from when I first got it (I regular clean/fix the registry, clean up spyware/adware and use Nod 32) he thought it could be from the dust and crap inside which could be affecting the computer processor. Any truth in this? Thanks for your answers.

May be some truth in it if getting to hot. would not be concerned about that. Blowing out and keeping clean is about keeping it unplugged, venting and cooling. so it don't break down.

Only if the processor was being hit from the crumbs spinning around on the Hard Disc platters, it might have dislodged it. :P

No, he's talking BS, if dust was an issue I'm sure you would have noticed heat issues by now.

Unless speedstep is kicking in from heat, then they guy is basically full of crap. If you want to clean the dust out, clean it yourself, its not very hard.

As people have said--the only way that dust could affect the speed of your computer is if it's overheating and dropping the processor's speed.
