From my last post I'm kind of updating the question my external hard drive won't boot it just gives me this error "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of windows." So I'm wondering is it because my external HD is a Windows 7 MBR?

If you switch your UEFI boot mode to legacy (most offer the ability to boot in a BIOS like way) you can probably use the disc. For windows booted UEFI for GPT (or BIOS for MBR) and the version of the windows disc needs to be the same as the installed version you are trying to repair.
