Can i burn a downloaded vista ultimate x64 upgrade to a DVD?

Im about to download vista ultimate x64, im guessing that its not a bootable version as its only the update, however im planning on using it to do a clean install because it works out loads cheaper.
They want £10 to send me a backup CD version, but cant i just download it and burn it onto a cd myself or would that not work?

Where are you purchasing from? (some sites sell pirated versions of Windows for download)

Im a student so im purchasing the student edition through the university web page for £40 hence why i dont wanna spend the extra money on the dvd if i can create a bootable version of the download!
