can I delete a partition?

I installed Windows XP on my laptop. I have a 10GB hard drive. When I installed XP, I partitioned the hard drive into 3GB (C:) and a 7GB (D:). I have installed only 6 programs and my C drive has only 170mb left. I am not sure why I made such a small partition. Is there a way to delete a partition without losing the information on the hard drive or having to reinstall XP?

What do you mean by "back 'em up"? Are you saying I should back up my hard drive and the reformat/reinstall XP?

Is it not possible to delete a partition without reformating?

get Partition Magic 8,

convert the file system of each partition to the same type (NTFS/FAT32), and merge the drives together.

if you simply deleted the partition, you would not be any better off, instead you would have 7GB of unallocated space..

if you still choose to delete the partition, (if you get partition magic) you can then choose to distribute the unallocated space to the partitions, in this case all 7GB back to C:\
