i just upgraded to win7 and was wondering if i can delete the old windows files as they are taking up 23gb's of space.

If you installed the new Windows OS on your computer, feel free to delete the old one,UNLESS YOU HAVE SOME IMPORTANT FILES IN IT!!!Also be sure not to delete the files of your new Windows 7 OS because if you do,Windows 7 will probably stop working properly...

Windows.old has NOTHING to do with registry on the current host OS

If you upgraded or did an install over top of another install then Windows automatically moves your OLD programs and files into that folder.

jjvwg what is the EXACT name of the folder where your new OS Windows 7 is installed? If it's NOT named "windows.old" then feel free to delete that...

no, its ok if he deletes Windows.old, just dont delete anything the the WINDOWS folder.

Just delete the whole "Windows.old" folder

Yes, you can root around in there and see if there's anything you want to keep, and then delete the whole WINDOWS.OLD folder.

That's what Microsoft intended. In case you "forgot" to backup your pics and documents, they do it for you.

Also,

if windows for some odd reason wont let you delete the folder then do the following:

Right click your C drive in "My Computer" and click "Properties". On the General tab click "Disk Cleanup". Put a check next to "Windows.old" in the list and click Apply, ok, etc
