Can I have some advice for upgrading my PC?

you will need to get a new power supply too. The ones put in prebuilt systems, especially eMachines, are terrible and will end up blowing if you upgrade further than what is already in there. Then it isn't just a case of getting a new power supply, most of the time it takes out other components too, so will have to get other parts replaced, or a whole new system.

For the CPU, you should be ok just upgrading that though, but not the video card without a new PSU

For your video card though, for the $40 you said, you can get a better power supply:

and then save. That will only power a "lower end" card, but a $40 card will be powered by it easily, a 3850 or 8800gt for example

You will have to make sure that your case is large enough for a video card and power supply though, often they use either mATX (mini ATX which are small) or non-industry standard sizes. If it is either of those, you won't be able to use them
 
Are you sure he will be able to upgrade to a 125 Watt Processor with his current system? The Athlon 7850 Processor also may or may not work with your present motherboard. If you do buy a processor that ends up not working with your board you may need to buy another motherboard. In my opinion I would not risk it. Just buy a new motherboard and an Athlon II Processor.
 
You can e-mail E-Machines give them your computer model number and tell them you want to upgrade to an Athlon 7850 Processor and ask if the motherboard is compatible.

E-Machines doesn't use quality parts in their desktop computers. In my own opinion I doubt the upgrade will work. You likely need to buy a whole new motherboard.

A processor I would look at for an upgrade with a new Gigabyte brand motherboard is the following:

AMD Athlon II 240 Regor (2.8 gigahertz) Dual-Core Processor - $59

This processor will not work with your present motherboard.
 
IMO, you really should't have gotten this computer in the first place. For the price of upgrading all that you want to put in it, you could've gotten a better system. My advice: don't EVER buy an eMachines. :) the worst computers ever made.

Read my previous post. The AMD Athlon II 240 Regor (2.8 gigahertz) Dual-Core Processor will not work with your present motherboard. If you wanted a motherboard that the Athlon II 240 would work with I would recommend the following:

I hope you also have a Windows installation disk because if not that is going to set you back another $90 about. If you switch motherboards you need to reinstall your operating system.
