Can I hide a running window?

Hi,

Can I hide a program's window while it is running on my PC and keep it running on the background of my desktop؟
For example, can I hide a downloading window while it is running and keep it running on the background with no apparent evidence of it running?

Is there any way or software for that???

well, everything that you run will appear on the task bar.. No real way of hiding it except by hiding the task bar.. (atleast that i know of)
 
Is this an arbitrary program? Or one you're writing? And what OS are you dealing with?
 
the minimize button works. :)

also if you are running windows xp, the simplest thing to do is to take advantage of switch user capability. create another account, and logon to it, download away, then switch over to your normal account.

would work for me at uni except that you can't create a new roaming user in xp, lusermgr.exe is protected - u can easily get around that in win2k :)
