Hey, i have charter cable internet... I have heard of people increasing their bandwidth from their computer... Is this possible?

nope

you can optimize your computer's registry to take better advantage of your available speed, but the only legal way to achieve greater throughput is by calling up your cable company and upgrading

Some believe you can tweak your computer for faster connection, like said above. I tried it a few months and I didn't notice any different in my internet bandwidth.

So just get a faster connection. But you need to pay more.

My connection is about 300kbps sometimes even slower. That's all I can afford and I think its good enuf(patience is all you need ) ^^

exactly, i just let my computer run while i'm away

ive never had a 5 gig download that i NEEDED in a certain timeframe or anything

it gets done when it gets done. simple

I can't download(or have a hell of a time trying) anything... net kicks off if I'm not constantly sending info, and somethims it still is a turd.

go into your modem's configuration and check your signal to noise ratio

my guess would be that you have a weak signal at your modem

make sure you use no splitters, amplifiers, etc. between the line coming into the house, and your modem. It should (except for one main split, as soon as the cable comes into the house) be a straight line to your modem. Also, make sure the main splitter is as close to where the cable comes into the house as possible. The weaker the signal is by the time you split it, the more it degrades it. It's exponential, if you will.

If the signal's still weak, call your cable company.

And if at all possible, you should position the modem as close to where the cable comes into the house as possible. I know i have my network setup where the signal only has to travel through about 3 feet of cable to the modem after it comes into the house, and i've never lost my connection once since i moved here in august.

By tweaking this or that you are not really increasing the bandwidth as much as you are allowing more to be used or used efficiently.
