Can I just lowe rthe latency of my memory?

What will happen if I lower the latency down from my current 5-5-5-12 to lets say 4-4-4-12 or w/e. Is this a form of overclocking or is this just something that isn't possible. I really don't plan on just trying it without asking. I am new to overclocking. How much could I OC my memory anyways. I have Corsair xms2 ddr2 800mhz. Thanks for asking my questions.

Thank you.

Lowering the latency below the manufacturer's specifications is a form of ocing there. That allows the system to access data faster and more frequently. Stability is the key word when finding the ideal point for this. If the system starts acting up you would be forced back to the default settings.

Where is a good place to start

it is 5-5-5-12

should I try one at a time ie:

4-5-5-12
4-4-5-12
4-4-4-12
4-4-4-11

etc

or

just lower all at once...

What are the consequences, do they get hotter or whats the deal there...?

you might have to raise the voltage to thema dn change the 1t to 2t if its not already at that

if you lower it too much you won't be able to boot so you'd have to reset the BIOS with the jumper on the mother board

One tip to pass along here is to do things in small steps to see how things go. If you simply take large steps you will be jumping pins and pulling the battery on the board enough to get the defaults back.

Personally, I would just clock the FSB higher. With DDR2-800 I'd set it's default speed slower, that is set it to 667 or 533 and see how much you can clock it up. You know you are good to at least 400MHz FSB with 5-5-5-12 on the RAM if you go with 533. On top of that, since you are really running the RAM at stock at that point you can still lower the timings. At 667 the known for safe FSB the RAM is 320MHz.
