Is it possible to just have one Hard drive in your computer? I was looking at this HDD and I was wondering if its possible to just use that without any other. I heard that you need atleast 2+ HDD's for the computer to be running. Is this true?

For a basic system seeing only one OS one drive is all it takes simply to see the OS installed on it as the main boot device. The type of build and plans to dual or multiboot different operating systems or simply having a second for storage and backing things up is one main reason why people will often go for a second drive internal or external.

Laptop/notebook users may go out and buy an external usb drive since those are compact and the one optical drive would need to be sacrificed in order to see a second hard drive added internally. For a single large capacity drive you have the option of seeing have one single large primary partition or see two smaller partitions one for the OS and the second for storage.

Well its just going to be Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit. Wouldn't 1 TB easily handle that and all the programs/files I put on there?

You will be fine, plenty of space. The RE models are good drives too.

Thanks. But I have another question. Is it possible to just have 2 Harddrives without them running in RAID? Like just have 1 HDD for the O.S and programs and the other for small secret files?

I'm running Vista on the primary HD with XP on the second 500gb sata drive in here plus have had two different releases of the Linux distribution ubuntu as well as Mandriva on at one time or another. Plus I often work with video captures where the usable 465gb after partitioning saw 420gb chewed up fast with that alone.

Talk about looking at the WD Green Power 1tb model drives I still manage with half that size. You have twice that to work with there.

Besides the two 500gb internal satas I added on a 500gb external a while back as a main storage device for every OS seeing files and updates for both XP and Vista stored there in case one drive fails, Windows has to be reinstalled, or I simply run out of room on one of the internal drives.

At some point if you find that you want to run another OS or do end up filling that sized drive up you can always add another in for OS or storage there. Otherwise you are running a larger drive then most on their single drive systems.
