Can I place the system unit vertically?

I have an IBM system unit which is meant to be put horizontally, i.e. it is not a tower unit.
Will it matter if I put it vertically in my table rather than horizontally?

Nothing really, as long as it'll stand up on its side then it should be fine. I've used tower cases horizontally and they're fine. The only trouble you might run into is an extra loud DVD drive.

Nah...you can mount hard drives at just about any angle, though I think it's technically better for them to be flat.

It's better for hard drives to flat, but it won't be an issue if it isn't.
