Can I put a duoble slot card into a single slot?

I only have one available PCI Express slot, when cards are listed as double that doesn't mean they use two just that they take up the room of two right? So if it would physically fit I could put a double slot card in a single yes??

As long as there's another open slot (doesn't matter which kind) beneath your PCI Express slot then yes you can fit it in.
