Can i put a video card in my computer?

i have a sony vaio desktop model number pcv-rs 410 and i went up to best buy today and they told me i cannot put a video card in my computer without updating my motherboard, then i went to circuit city and they told me i need an apg video card, im looking for one that has hd capabilities, mainly going to be used for watch dvds so it doesnt have to be super expensive, any help is appreciated thanks

Yes you should be able to put a video card to it. From what I know, yes you can only slot in an AGP port video card. You can't get one for super expensive because they don't make them anymore. AGP's can range from $30-$130. I would not recommend any that would be above $100 because it would just be a waste of money. Just make sure your powersupply is powerful enough.
 
The HD 2400 isnt that bad either. A friend of mine has the Visiontek 512MV HD 2400 Pro agp and it runs all his games (CSS, TF2, COD4, etc)
 
i was told that putting a video card in the agp port in my computer might acctually be slower than whats in it right now? is this true?
 
thats not what i meant, i meant that putting a video card in the agp slot will be slower than the graphics processer that is already in my computer
