Can I put any video card on my system?

I have an old computer. I plan on buying a new one in a couple months.

I read a few posts but I can't really find the answer to my question:
Can I put any video card on my current old system (Monocore AMD Athlon (tm) 2800+, 2gig of ram), PCI slot on the motherboard.)

I read somewhere that i would need a better power supply (currently a 400 Watt).

I plan on using the video card on the new system, I also plan on playing games like Aeon, WoW, nothing too fancy.

This would all depend on what card you wanted to install on your system, also the current power supply you have ( you may need to get a new one depening on the card you decide on)

The power supply that is the min for that card is like 450 meaning yea you could with 450 but really you would wants something more then that, also you need a PCI express x16 slot for that card, you need to look if your board can support it as well, you do have enough ram for this card but i would suggest an upgrade there as well if your budget permits
 
No you can't put any card in your computer. You would defiantly need a new PSU for anything above a 9600gt. You said it has a PCI slot which is not what you need, you will need a PCIe x16 slot. If you buy a PCI card you will be wasting you're money. Also anything above a 4850 would probably bottleneck you're CPU. In my opinion, you could get the 4350 but don't expect much from it you might be able to play WoW on mixed low/medium settings. You could get a new PSU and a new card and use them both for you're new build. You should probably just wait until you build you're new computer because you still don't know what you're other components will be so picking a PSU will be hard. If I had to suggest something it would be this.

I looked it up and my motherboard (soyo KT 600) has:
Expansion Slots 5 x PCI, 1 x AGP 8X

So I take it I can not run the good video card on my system.

I think that I have two options indeed. Either get something that will fit my system (but then can I use it on my new system? Do I even want to) OR, like you suggested, just suck it up for now and save up for a better system.

I am thinking that a new system with the minimum of RAM and video card will still be much better than what I have (I plan on buying a good motherboard and CPU so that I don't find myself with an outdated system next year).

I will definitively browse the forum and see what kind of system would fit me best.

Yea, both PCI and AGP video cards are out dated and will no be able to be used on your next computer. I wouldn't suggest you put the money towards an AGP card there is really no good ones out there and it would do you no good for you're next computer.

You can get a nice gaming computer with a quad core CPU and 4GB of RAM for about $500, unless you need OS which would be $600. For about $400($500 with OS) you can have a decent dual or tri-core CPU, 4GB's of RAM, and a decent graphics card that will allow you to play games like WoW on high settings.
