My Toshiba Satellite laptop, recently crashed and I ran the recovery disk that came with the laptop at time of purchase .. during the install , i got error : 10-FC12-0002 .. some research on the net suggested this as a HD issue.

I would like to replace the HD and wondering what I should be looking for in buying a new hard drive?

Are there different types of laptop HD's?
Does brand matter?
Is installation as easy as plug out/plug in?

Where is the best place (cheapest) to purchase?

Any help and or suggestion appreciated.

Thanks.

Maybe an Hard Disk Drive can work up to 1 TB or 1000 GB for your laptop. You can replace your Hard Drive for your laptop unless you know how to replace it.

Take the hard drive out and find the model and post it so we can tell you what type of drive you have.

Woo... Yet another Toshiba laptop with a dead hard drive. Probably a Toshiba branded hard drive too :P

It's going to be a 2.5" hard drive. But without telling us the model of the laptop, we can't say if it's SATA or IDE. Tell us the model of the laptop or remove the drive and tell us. The drive will either have 44 pins (IDE) or a pair of flat connectors (SATA). Confirm there's no additional converters connected to the drive. Images of the drive interfaces can be found online. You could find replacement drives from Newegg.
