I recently installed vista on my secondary hdd and after 2 hours have established that i hate it and i wanna get rid of it (still have xp pro on primary hdd) i want to get rid of it without formatting i have 170gb of data stored on there and no other drive large enough to back it up .Is it possible to uninstall vista completely or am i going to have to just live with it being there until im able to format my hdd

Hate it or simply don't understand it yet? Try disabling the UAC(User Account Control) and some of the eye candy like aero themes and use the "Classic Window" view and themes and it simply becomes just another version of BG's what? Windows!

That new boot folder is fun trying to remove. When RC1 was first tried out the partition simply had to be deleted entirely to see that gone. No more add/remove Windows components but you no longer need a recovery console to fix startup problems. But like any other version it has it's ups and downs.

As a second OS you now have a chance to get familiar with it even better. If you setup a dual boot someone is working on hiding the Vista installation from XP to keep XP from deleting Vista's restore points. That's in development at thiis time however.

You will find that even the next version to be seen in a year or so will still have up in arms over it for some reason or another. XP was labeled a few things when that first came out as well. 98SE users were hesitant to bother to upgrade along with 2000 users. ME on the other hand is the actual "abandoned Windows".

I just simply dont like the layout took me ten minutes to figure out where the shut down menu was. not to mention as a whole think its one of the ugliest things i ever seen and the lil gay soundin chimes dont help it much. so far ive found it much slower than xp i just all in all dont like it. only reason im trying it out at all is to try and help friends who are having problems using it at all personally ive been very happy with xp professional and never had a desire to try vista. ill try disabling uac and see if maybe i find it more to my liking but if i dont i still wanna how to get rid of it i have no intention of keeping it for the long haul

Besides turning off the UAC you may want to follow a few other tips I can pass along here. One would simply disabling the sidebar and other "eye candy" in order to switch to the Classic view. Then you can take any background for the desktop or plain solid color if preferred.

The Start taskbar and borders around IE and WExplorer windows can see a color change called 3D objects in the appearance section for display settings. The msconfig utility is still a useful tool there as well as the artcile seen at http://www.connectedinternet.co.uk/2007/10/19/10-simple-ways-to-speed-up-windows-vista/

You'll notice a few items already mentioned being seen in the list of things there.
