Hmm if i had to guess is either way a ago or pci, try opening your case and look if you have something that looks like this the brown is an agp slot, the white are pci slots

ok- i had a look and it looks nearly identical to the picture you showed, it has the brown slot above the pci slots... so what does that mean? thanks

Well thats a AGP slot (brown one) so u`ll need to find urself a AGP graphics card. I would look at the 7600-7800 nVidia series.

I agree with ghostfacesuk, just make sure your power supply can handle it, you can check this by reading the specifications on it and look at the 12V@ rail and how much wattage it has

ok thanks for that- one more thing, will the new graphics card get its power supply from that agp slot or will it need its own power supply directly from the PSU (as i dont think there is one spare)?

ok- it now seems as if i am blessed with a very small powered PSU- 250W.- see pic. taking this into consideration, can anyone recommend a graphics card that will run on this? thanks

I would have a look on a computer shop site like www.newegg.com

Get something like a 350-450w PSU.

EDIT: most graphics cards these days need atleast 350W PSUs to run them so it might be worth just upgrading anyway.

PSU will not be to hard to find, just make sure its a ATX 2.0 PSU or above and that its more than 300W :P
