Can I Upgrade My Laptop CPU?

Am I missing something, or is the only difference between TL-50 and Tl-52 the cache? If so, I can't see there being any real performance increase.

Is it possible? MANY factors may hinder this... I do beleive many laptop CPUs are in sockets, but earlier ones were either proprietary or soldered to the motherboard. The only real way to check this is to look at the processor and see if it is in fact a socket.

And finally, if you can upgrade it, you're done. There shouldn't be any configuration changes, any drivers, nothing...

So going from a 1.6 to a 1.9ghz isnt going to help?
BTW, I already know they will fit, I just want to know what other stuff it would take. They are all based off of the AMD K8, and S1 socket.
 
But as said earlier, you really have to kill your lappy case to get to the CPU, and you really wont see much of a perfomance difference, no matter what the GHz difference.
 
VERY untrue(having to strip the laptop and what not) I could pull the processor out of my laptop in about 10 minutes. Not not all laptops are like this, I'm sure, but not all are complicated.

Yes, my laptop takes 8 screws to take a bottom plate off and 4 to take the heat pipe off. 5 minutes tops for disassembly. I wouldnt upgrade my processor until later, but again, would I have to find new drivers?

Nope. Drivers arent really a CPU thing, as if your motherboard doesnt support them then you have to bet a BIOS update.
 
Im just curious why you want to upgrade your lappies CPU? Do you run any cpu intensive apps? Or just looking for an all-around-speed-boost?
 
I wasn't joking. If I were, you would know. It really did help a lot to replace my CPU. Better gameplay, better application use, and better load times.
 
I'm going to run my laptop as a gaming computer, so I wanted to amp it up. I also want almost desktop performance I can take i my backpack.
Evanscnce- which processor did you upgrade to?
Edit: Wow, I didnt notice our computers are almost exactly the same besides the webcam.
