Can I upgrade or do I need a new PC?

My PC is maybe 3-4 years old, a normal HP Pavillion desktop I bought when I wasn't very tech-savvy. Now, it's starting to show its age and can't run modern games that well. I'm thinking of either buying a new one for christmas, but I don't want to shove out the money if if can still save this one.
My specs are :
8GB Ram,

AMD Phenom 9750 QuadCore 2.4Ghz

ATI Radeon HD 4600 video card.

What should I upgrade?

The power supply almost surely won't support enough of a video card upgrade, if any.
Dell bios may not have much overclocking (cpu) options.

A PS and vc can be moved to a new build.

What Dell is it?

the only real upgrade would be a new gpu and psu, anything else would mean a new mobo and ram and everything else too

I would recommend it. You would be able to slowly upgrade, which would mean:

new PSU first before anything else

new video card and/or hard drive (hard drive isn't essential, but going to something better and using your current as storage will improve performance)

new mobo + CPU + Memory (You will need all 3 at once, because to get a new CPU, you will need a new mobo, and all motherboards now use DDR3 memory, where you are on DDR2)

New case (I would actually take this one before the video card + hard drive, for space, quality and for better cooling and design)

And sell your stuff on ebay as you go. I generally sell my stuff first, then see what budget i have. Set your min price to what you can afford to lose.

start your own thread and tell us budget and what you want to use it for, but hijacking other's threads is impolite.
