You cant burn a DVD with a CD burner but you can write a CD with a DVD burner. You need a DVD-R or DVD-RW to burn a DVD.

can't do it, but if your looking to burn movies for your dvd player, you can burn VCD, but most time it takes two CD for one movie, so its better to just save up and buy a DVD burner

With the Pioneer 107's going for around $80 now, there hasn't been a better time to pick up a quality DVD burner :)

Depending on what you mean by "burn a DVD ..." you CAN. Heehee. With Nero6 its actually quite easy, you just make your DVD the normal way (i.e., TMPGEnc/CCE, DVDLab etc) and burn it as a MiniDVD but keep in mind you will be limited to roughly 21 minutes or so. The movie is 100% dvd compliant etc and as long as the standalone reads CDRs then you should be fine (as the player will think its just a 21minute normal DVD)
