Can info make its own way from one drive to another?

Hi folks,

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, I've had a look and came up with nothing.

I was wondering if, when downloading files from the web (p2p, servers etc) and the files are specifically saved to the internal drive, is there any way for said file, or parts of it, to somehow make its way onto a connected external, even after download? Obviously I'm discounting it purposely being put there, I just wondered if this can happen.

Thank you.

Only malware can transfer itself from drive to drive unless you physically move the data from drive to drive.
