Can memory all of a sudden go bad?

Hi i bought a toshiba satellite last month. everything worked peachy keen until today. I came down and it said some error. I tried restarting the computer and it said no OS installed so everything on my stupid computer was gone all of a sudden and it happened overnight. anyways not a huge deal I go i use the toshiba recovery discs, they don't work! So i install my windows Vista Ultimate DVD that I had from before, it started to re-install vista and then the blue screen came on and obviously i had to restart. So it looked like i was stuck with a paperweight.

Just for kicks I took out the 2 gigs of memory that came with my computer and put 1 gig from another laptop. I restarted the vista installation and so far everything is working perfect.

So here are my questions.

- Can memory all of a sudden go bad? I mean I bought some bad memory a while ago and it was crap from the beginning, but I have had this laptop for over a month with no problems.

-If it is from faulty memory can bad memory actually make your hard drive formatted or do I have another problem as well?

Faulty memory should be contained to the memory. I would say you have another problem if your harddrive got erased.

Memory can start out good then fail, although it probably had minor issues all along that got worse as it was used.

thank you for the help! I will keep this in mind as I work at trying to fix this dumb thing ;) i just assumed i could blame it on the memory since the installations are working fine now that I installed different memory

Well if it's working fine with the new memory that's great. I don't think I've seen a hard drive get wiped because of bad RAM though.

ok, hi i downloaded (with my other laptop) all of the drivers that i need from the toshiba website, but two important ones arent working.

Atheros wireless network driver
Intel Display driver

when I install the Atherose wireless network driver it installs normal, but i restart and it doesnt pick up any wireless networks because it says soimetrhing is wrong with my wireless driver.

when i try to install the Intel display driver it says "this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit"

do any of you know how i might be able to fix these problems. My os is windows ultimate 64 bit. sorry if im a bit off the original topic
