Can my rig handle an R9 280x?

I'm really thinking about buying this VGA but i'm still having second toughts, basically - can my grid handle this graphics card? I have an i7 860 2,80Ghz 6GB RAM Power Supply of 450 - 500 W max, my motherboard is an Acer H57M01 and finally an Nvidia 320GT, that i want to replace with an R9 280x. But can my power supply handle it? and are there any other possible compatibility issues?

Thank you very much guys.

The 280x requires at least a decent 600 watt power supply I wouldn't buy anything less than 50 bucks unless it was on sale. As said, the corsair cx600 is a good choice.

^ The 280X "requires" more then a 600W PSU, but I have it in my system with a CX600M. It's a very good quality power supply. Otherwise, you won't have a problem with the 280X. Your processor and this card seem like a pretty equal match and I don't suspect any bottlenecking.

You've talked about that higher requirement before and it's not right. The card is the same as the 7970, which requires less than 600 watts.

It does???? Here's proof it don't..

Where is your proof that it does?

Meant that a 600w would be fine. Even a 550w could work as shown with your MSI link, John...

I would suspect it would use less than 600w, my system uses just over 700w on full load. But as stated maybe not worth risking it. The cx600 is pretty cheap and a quality PSU so it may be best to get it.

You said it required more than a 600 watt psu and now you are saying that 600 watts is fine?? What gives??

Which specific power supply do you have?

You could probably 'get away' with your current one if it's a quality unit but I wouldn't try to push any system or card overclocks by using it.

That's why I put quotations around, "requires", and said that I run with a CX600M.

Yup, site says you need 750 watts for one card and 1000 watts for Crossfire. Talk about overhead, jeez.

and as Ninja said, it's aimed at the lower end PSU's that aren't always efficient.
