Heya,

I have windows XP in my computer. My dad's giving me his computer so I'm hoping to combine them, basically making my dad's harddrive the slave one on my computer. Trouble is his harddrive has Windows 98 on it. I don't have any Windows CD's since my computer just came from the factory with XP on it.

Will there be a problem having the slave harddrive using XP while the slave uses 98? My computer is a HP, while his is a compaq, if that matters..

Hmm

Well since all the drivers are machine specific, you will most likely run into problems. Just make sure that you set the boot device to be the master.

the hdd your dad is giving you will have all the drivers for his mobo on it so it wont run properly just plug it in as a slave and format it you will be able to use it to install games to or for extra space to save things

You will be looking at headaches. Plus you need to install the older OS before the newer one for it to work correctly

You can yes. But you wont be able to use the OS on your dads old hdd like people have said before. In order for it to work, you have to reinstall windows on your dads old hard drive and when you boot up, it will give you and option of which OS to boot.
