... extended desktop really is?

Is it just my desktop and everything im doing, on two monitors simultaneously?! (Spelling?) or can i do one thing monitor 1 and another on monitor 2?

The term extended desktop (as far as I know) means both those things. With a few clicks you can change from having an excel spreadsheet crossing two monitors, for example, or have an excel spreadsheet on one monitor and a word document on another.

I must admit it's been a while since I've had a dual monitor setup, and even then I was using a tv as the second monitor. But from what I remember, all you should need to do is to make sure your graphics drivers are updated, then to plug the second monitor in the other rear slot and configure for dual displays via the nView feature of the graphics control panel.

nView didnt work properly for me (i was using 2 different sized monitors, and nView only supports one resolution) and my computer also didnt recognize the extra monitor until i restarted. so what i did (worked perfectly fr me and my 2 different monitors) was plugged the mnitor in, restarted, went into the control panel, then display, then i believe settings. and you can play with your resolution (you can set up differrent resolutions for each monitor) and dual monitor settings in there. but if you are using 2 of the same sized monitors i recomend using nView.

Well.. I have a Dell M991 18" CRT and a Silicon Graphics 20" PnP CRT.. What I was really hoping for was what you guys said already, that I can do two things, each on a seperate monitor.. Does that apply to let's say a DVD on one monitor and surfing the net on the other?

I'm kinda new, hoping you guys'll cut me some slack on being nearly clueless on this.. but I do get the jist of things really quick.. also, my 20" has a DVI connect as well as a VGA connect, the 18" only has VGA, should I be looking for a second card that does VGA, or ? I guess I don't really know much about DVI?

What's your graphics card, and how many rear slots do you have on it? You can buy VGA-DVI converters if nessecary.

Sure you can use a dual monitor setup to surf and watch a DVD - any program can be maximized in either monitor. There are some nView video tutorials which may help things become clearer. Video 2 will give you an idea of what you can achieve with nView.
