Hey all. Im new here and fairly new to computers(building them ). (I know you get 947493 threads of this daily, but I would greatly appreciate the help). Im looking to get a new computer for christmas, since mine is basically getting slower and slower each day and just isnt powerful blahblahblah. Im looking to get a desktop, and use it mainly for gaming, web browsing, aim, word processing, etc...
I have mainly chosen to go with AMD processors, and I have about 1500-1600 to spend(what my parnets will spend) plus whatever i hev saved up by x-mas, probably liek 300ish, 400ish.. So far what I have come up with is:
-AMD athlon 64 3800+ venice
-DFi Lanparty nF4 SLI-DR
-Sapphire Radeon x800PRO 256mb pci express x16
-Geil value 1 gb (2x512mb) 184 pin ddr 400 (pc3200) X2 (therefore making it 2 gigs total, 4 sticks total)
-NEC ide dvd burner
-Antec Truepower2 550w ATX 12v
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 sata 160gb
-probably some floppy drive, just in case
All inside an aspire x Superalien ATXa6sw case?
This comes out to only about $1300ish, leaving me about 300 for a monitor. However, My birthday is in june and i hav eplenty of ctx monitors lying around my house and my parents' offices, so i figured it might be a good idea to hold off on the monitor till my birthday, leaving me around 300 more to add to the mix. Also since it will take me proabbly quite some time to put everything together, thats about 5~6 months in which i could wait.
What I need from you guys is to critique my setup, and reccomending whatever you think could optimize my performance with the given price range. I thank you all in advance for your help.
