can someone recommend me a vid card?

I think that you can't find a good NVidia GeForce card under 50$.
I suggest you to buy 9600XT. It´s a good card in its price range.

well, mine is an ati radeon 9520 256mb pci, only 80 dollars i think, it performs well for the price

If you are going to buy PCI-E card this would be the best in tis price range:
There's no PCI-E card going into his computer. I highly doubt that it even has an AGP slot, considering its age and the fact that it uses integrated graphics. So that leaves you with only PCI video cards as an option, which really are not sold much. I would recommend either the MX 4000 or the FX5200 PCI.

edit: now I read all the posts, and find that those 2 graphics cards are already listed.

I also find that all of you are confused. PCI-E is drastically different than PCI. PCI is an old graphics card specification, and most of you are linking to AGP and PCI-E cards. He needs a PCI gfx card.

@monkeysims
How in the world are you getting XP Pro to run on that computer?

^ Since the MX4000 was suggested, I'd just like to say that (in my personal experience) its a nice, reliable card. Even though you won't be playing games, I'll just tell you that I can run Halo on about 800x600 on medium textures, and the video playback it good (I have not yet tried DVD's though).

Well I have the FX5200 AGP version, and it runs games *ok*. I haven't tried anything overly intensive, but it isn't that great of a card, nor is it bad.

Yeah, that's about the minimum and it will do a lot of basic stuff pretty well, but like monkeysims implied, I wouldn't try to do any CADD drawing with a computer like that :).
