Can this be done?

I have a laptop hard drive and a laptop dvd rom drive. I want to hook them up to a desktop pc without using usb. I have an external case for my dvd rom and that uses two usb ports. Pluse, if possible, I would like to leave them inside the pc case. Are there some kind of cables to do this?

Yeah, the laptop hard drive could bet mounted in the case and connected via SATA or IDE, same with the dvd rom drive. Your case probably does not have mounting slots and screw holes sized for laptop parts, so you may need to use zipties or tape to keep them in place.

Im not worried about mounting, Im just confused about wiring. They are both ide. I just assumed the connection was differant because my hd has some kind of pins sticking out. It has a plastic adaptor thing so I can plug it into my laptop. So would I just buy the same ide cables as if I was installing desktop components?

I tried a regular pc ide cable but it is too fat to plug into the laptop hd. Am I missing something?
