Can this card do skyrim without crashing?

My current 1GB Nvidia Geforce GTX 275 can't go two minutes on Skyrim or Oblivion without its "Kernel Mode Driver" crashing. I've actually become accustomed to spamming the F5 key in order to be constantly quicksaving ... and it really hurts my sense of immersion, which is what the Elder Scrolls games are all about!

I never had this problem on my old computer, which was only capable of playing Oblivion, but had an AMD graphics card.

So, I'm thinking that the problem must be the brand. No more Nvidia for me.

Up there, I've got a link to an AMD Graphics Card that I think might be in my budget. Do you guys think that would play Skyrim and Oblivion without crashing every five minutes?
 
Sounds like a failing card more than a game problem.

What are your other system specs?
 
The fact that card is Nvidia is not your problem. Card could be failing, faulty drivers, or overheating card.

Also the 275 you have is actually faster than the 5450 you linked anyway. 5450 is a low end card designed to be put in machines that need the ability to output HD content such as videos or pictures. Not a gaming card by any means.

I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers twice.

And although I don't remember too much, I'm pretty sure I checked the heat using some sort of heat-checking software.

So ... I just need a new Nvidia Geforce GTX 275?
 
IF you're going to buy a new card might as well get something like a GTX 560 or 580 to make it more worth your while, as long as the PSU can handle it.
 
What are the rest of your specs including PSU? How much are you potentially wanting to spend on this? You'll need at least 75 USD to get something worthwhile. This chart gives you a good idea of general performance of your card versus some newer cards. You can then check Newegg or Amazon for prices on competitive cards. For Nvidia card you want a 700 series card and for AMD an R7 or an R9 series card as those are the most recent.

I was able to find another Nvidia Geforce GTX 275 on Ebay for $35, with free shipping.
