Can this go in my laptop?

You are generally quite limited in the upgrades you can do with a notebook (laptop). I would make sure everything you had all your data backed up before you tried it. I wouldn't ever try to upgrade anything in a notebook other than the random access memory or the hard drive as it will likely render it useless.

I have a second HDD with an image of my current OS.

But are you saying that I could fry my laptop if it doesn't work?

I have never heard of anyone upgrading a processor in a notebook. I am not saying it cannot be done but notebooks are built specifically for the case that they are in. Companies have to train their personnel to work specifically on their notebook models because of this. In my opinion I don't think it is a good idea.
