Hi all, I just switch my ISP, I got a wireless router from this company, now I end up have two wireless routers, Can I connect these two routers together? my old router is linksys WRT54G and the new router is Nexxt.
The Nexxt is connected to the cable modem. I wonder if I can connect the linksys to the Nexxt router using the up load port to one of the Nexxt 4 ports using the Cat5 cable?
I try but is not working. Is this do able? Do need to change some settings?
Thank you.
Paul

It actually depends on the routers itself. But the wrt54g can do it. You basically have to disable dhcp on the linksys and change its ip address to something similar the ip address of the Nexxt. For example, if the Nexxt ip address is 192.168.1.1 then change the linksys ip address to 192.168.1.2

Hi John,
The Nexxt ip address is 192.168.0.1: so can the wrt54g stay at its defaut 192.168.1.1? I just have to disable dhcp? i have try the router thia afternoon without success, the cable should be cat5 straight through cable? or should be the cross link cable?
thank you again.

If you want the two routers to be on the same network. I.E. if you want to be able to connect computers together that are on the different network, you will have to have the ip of the linksys to be 192.168.0.x. Personally I would use 192.168.0.2 so its east to remember.
Then you also need to disable DHCP like paul said, But you need to connect the Ethernet cable to one of the 4 ports, NOT the internet port, you have to use port 1-4. This will make the router a switch and allow you to connect all computers together

Hi Brian,
Which router connect to the 1-4 port? The NEXXT? or the WRT54g? is Straight cat5 cable or crosslink cable?
Thank you.
Paul

well both technically. You can use a straight cat5 from the LAN port of the nexxt and plug it into the lan port of the linksys.

I have connected the land port in the nexxt and the internet port to the linksys with a straight cat5 cable from this afternoon. the linksys router have been reseted few times, and somehow it start to work. so I leave it alone for now and hope won't create any damage to the routers.
Thank you.
