I just bought a hp pavilion elite, m9060n, and it's fantastic, other than the bloat-software and vista.
I've read around alot and the verdict i|s pretty plain...XP rules. I love it too, there's something just not right about vista.
Alas, HP is required to tell you that you can't switch back, what with non-cross comapatability ...
Is this true? Are we forever stuck with a beautiful comp and a empty yet shiny os?

Help would be greatly appreciated

well once you get use to it, vista is a very nice os, the service pack is comming out early next year and testing it out it is very good, but i agree, it would not be easy to switch back, it is possable, but some of your drivers may not work. you can always try if you have a spair copy of xp, just make sure you have the vista restore cd avalible.

Vista, just say no! :)

And yes it is very hard to convert a newer pre built system back to XP. I think Microsoft had something to do with it, but I blame everything on Microsoft.

The only thing you can do is some research. See if you can find XP drivers for every piece of hardware on your system. You might have to go directly to the subcontractor to find the drivers.

For instance, if you have a realtek lan card built in to your motherboard, you might be able to go to realtek's website and find drivers for it.

I had to do that for the newest system I built. The drivers that came with the motherboard sucked. I went to realtek and found some newer drivers for the chipset on the lan and upgraded it, it worked great after. And that was using XP and NOT vista.

If you can find XP drivers for all your stuff, put them all on a cd and reformat your hard drive and install XP. If you can't find them, then I would stay with Vista.
