Can You Fix It!?

Plug any monitor into this pc and the monitor goes black. Like hibernating. The light turns yellow. Even if the pc is turned off. I put in a graphics card thinking it was the integrated video, but the same thing happens. monitor basically shuts down or hibernates or something. The pc seems to run fine though, except I can't get a response from hitting keys like ctrl/alt/del 2x should shut down but nothing or the mouse. Like i said, even when the pc is off, plugging any monitor into any port makes the screen go from normal to black. got any suggestions? I'm clueless.

This is because your computer is off, so the monitor goes into what it is called a "Standby" mode. I don't see any problems at all?

computer is on- :plug a monitor in that is already on and showing "no signal" (obviously because it's not plugged in yet) and it goes black and light turns yellow the second it makes contact w/the plug. then plug the monitor into any other computer and it lights right up.
computer is off- :same as above

does that help at all?

When it's off that is normal. When it's on is not.
What kind of plug does it uses? VGA? Other one?
Check for damaged pins in the monitor's connection.
Get a video card and use it instead of the onboard one.
Try another monitor.
Try to plug the monitor you're saying that is not working at another computer.

Tell us if any of these worked.
I can't get a response from hitting keys like ctrl/alt/del 2x should shut down but nothing
That's over, man. Windows NT-based versions don't use that keyboard shortcut (2000, xp, vista). It is only in windows 98, Me and 95.

tried all those. it's a VGA plug. Monitors work fine. It's the computer that's jacked. could it be a problem with the mother board?

so basicly your monitor is not recieving signal from your computer (no output) when you put a new graphics card did you access your bios and check your display settings?

maybe your on board graphics are goosed and when you put a graphics card in its not working because you havent enabled it in bios - it will be something like primamry graphics adapter you would select agp or pci-e

Also the keyboard lights up when you first plug it in like when you turn on the computer but then the lights turn right back off. Num Lock, Caps Lock buttons don't turn the lights on/off when plugged into this computer. It's like it's in perma-sleep mode.

ok tried taking the battery out and it worked. so i turned it off to put pc back together and when i tried again it was broke again. except now the psu and cpu fans aren't running. this thing is driving me nuts.
-- what is the AUX PWR LED on the motherboard? is it supposed to be on or off.
