I've hosted 2 LAN's here at my house but my biggest problem is finding gamers willing to travel even 10 miles. Everyone I know is either hooked on WOW or is too lazy to come over. They won't even consider hosting lol.
Back in Austin, TX we used to have a LAN every Wed. night and play Rogue Spear and then the Urban ops add on pack. Was always at least 8 ppl. Man those were some good lans. The biggest home lan I went to had 30 ppl at it. Back in 98 playing Half Life with 30 ppl at a LAN and finishing 1st in the Deathmatch was sweeet sweet heaven!
Too add to the go wired statement here is my personal story of testing wifi. My download speeds were capped at 250k/sec with wifi but my hardwired speeds reach 650k/sec. This was tested on mulitple computers with a distance of up tp 20ft and as little as 3 ft from the wireless router. If you game...use wires.
