Hi everyone,

Im knew to the site and already have a big request.

Bascially I want to run my own classifieds website, the only knowledge I have of this so far is that I will need a website first then classifieds software installed to the site. Problem is I dont know where to begin or what to do.

What would be good is if I could get a classifieds website already set up, but they all seem to be really expensive.

If you could post a neewbies guide below or something that would be great, thanks!

Websites are complicated to make, you need to learn html, css, and have a basic knowledge of php, mySQL . You can't just install classifieds stuff and expect it to look how you want it to. If you really want to learn how to design a classified site, start reading around about the basics first (HTML, CSS) then you can move into other stuff.

Few things you need first
1) Domain name- this is your websites name like www.site.com . Just go to godaddy.com and buy one. like 5 bucks or something.
2) Someone to host your site. You need someone to hold your files and stuff. I use gatorhost.com 10 bucks a month.
3) Get books and learn HTML and CSS
4) Learn more
5) Learn more
6) Classifieds software: I would use a Jooma! (a CMS and free) and a classifieds extenstion added on found on joomla! site.

Ok the latest is this:

Ive got a classifieds site with noahs classifieds installed but im finding it to be pants, someone installed the noah for me as a favour but now im trying to upload a different classifieds script myself to help me learn how to do things like this.

Basically im trying to upload the free version of www.visale.com to my server but keep the noah script on there as well incase the visale turns out to be worse.

Ive followed what they say in the visale installation guide and got past the bit about adding a mySQL which ive done with no problems, but then i get no where. I think ive uploaded the files into the wrong place?

I have the domain name, hosting, and smartFTP client all sorted.

cheers!
