Hi guys,

I just had a quick question. I am troubleshooting a computer that had an Intel Celeron processor. It is a Compaq Presario SR1110NX. Either the motherboard or the CPU is fried. I want to troubleshoot the CPU first. So can I buy and install any CPU (AMD or Intel) on the motherboard?

Thanks for all your help in advance.

no - surton motherboards need different brands of CPU. Because they have different CPU slots and work differently.... unless it has the same amount of pins.. (i think)

well kinda ur answer its a SOCKET not SPROCKET

Processor Type Intel Celeron D
Socket Type Socket 478

so u will need a socket 478 cpu

Thanks cohen, Nvidia4life, Bulzeye11, JlCollins005 and StrangleHold...you all have been a great help...i guess i will try replacing a mobo first and then the CPU...as per what i have learned

1. - No problems anytime
2. - Do you need help choosing a motherboard??? and maybe a CPU???

One, why don't we all just take a step back and start looking at what the problems are, so we can save this guy the expense of buying either a motherboard or a CPU and not needing it. What's the thing doing (or not)? Post a question on another thread, I can almost guarantee you'll get an answer.

Two, Socket 478 is kinda old. Maybe the problem is the CPU or the mobo, and maybe we're stepping down a path of pouring money into rebuilding an obsolete PC when we could just build a new one for not a lot more money.
