Can you overpower a computer?

Im going to be building myself a new computer soon, but im not sure what kind of case i want to get yet or what power supply. Is there such thing are getting too large of a power supply or does that just allow for upgrading in the future if i decide to go with a better video card or something? Is there a general rule of thumb when deciding on a power supply.

no, just get what u want, modern ones if you do some of everything 350+ psu is good enough.

No you cant "overpower" your computer WITH RESPECT TO your power supply wattage rating. The rating there indictaes the MAX amount of power it can supply Often people never apporach anything near that (except on powerrup)
