Can you please look at this cheepo build =]

I am building my first computer, with the help of a friend who has built one before, and I want to make sure that this looks alright, or if there are any better parts for the same price that would be cool =]. I am mainly using this to play games (like crysis, cs, cod4, WOW, world in conflict, ect.), would this computer be able to handle it? I am trying to keep the build as cheap as possible, being 14 and that. One of the things I am worrying about though is that the PSU is not enough.

How much do you have to spend is the first question you have to ask. Then we can help you build a system. These are some ideas for ya...Just beg your parents for extra cash...maybe do a few extra chores or something.

- For the motherboard, Gigabyte is a good company and a lot of people swear by them, I like ASUS motherboards. A friend of mine has this board and loves it! (ASUS P5N-D) Only $129 and it has North Bridge NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI chipset.

excelstar might not be top of the line but i have had more luck with it than i have with WD the last WD i bought worked for 2 days before it died
 
I agree about getting a seagate drive, I have had no luck with WD, though I cant vouch for excelstar, if you can afford it mainstream is probably a safer bet.

As far as budget goes, I don't have a strict budget really, but right now I have about $500, so what ever more I need, I have to find a way to get it (cutting lawns I spose :(). So I want to keep it as low as I can but not sacrifice to much in my ability to play things like crysis and such, and also not downgrade so much I become obsolete to soon.

Now with the RAM, you have misunderstood me, it is $50 for the full 4 gigs (4x1GB, 55 each with 30 rebate each), so I think RAM wise this is fine yes?

After all the replies on the hard drive, I will get a more credible manufacturer, I will look that up a bit more tomorrow.

Now the mobo, I'm thinking maybe dropping down to that $90 one, and investing in a heat sink. So what would you guys recommend as far as a heat sink goes, and how easy is it to OC? Or would stock be fine hink sink wise. What would be the advantages of getting the more expensive one? SLI is a GPU advantage, something where you can run 2 right? Although I can't really afford 2, I might invest in the ability to do it later on.

Now the PSU, I know the PSU I have listed is a fine PSU, but my main concern was will 500watts be enough, I mean with that new GPU, Ocing, and all that.

Also is the case big enough for the GPU do you think? I know the newer ones tend to stick back kind of far.

And Vista, is the version I have listed fine for my needs?

You will need a heat sink. I am not insulting your intellagence but I have heard of people not installing one, you will cook your proc in about a minute. Here is the CPU cooler I use and never had a problem with it. Bought this for $28 and put on sone Arctic Silver 5, been great to me. There are tons of products and different people swear by different kinds. This is just an idea for you!:)

The motherboard you listed in your first post does NOT have SLI capability. It only has one PCI-E x16 slot. You might want to think again about getting the $90 motherboard if you want the ability to upgrade and maybe one day go SLI, a cheap board may not be your best selection. The board you chose is a good board but the future will be limited for expansion. Like in my other post here is my rcomendation to you for a motherboard, only $20 more and you will get soo much more board!

regarding the psu.

i ran a socket a mobo, ati radeon x1650pro, dvd burner, 6 fans and 5 hdd's
on a 500watt acme psu with no probs at all.... i wouldn't recomend going under 400watt.. and i also wouldn't recomend acme either... with your video card: seriously go with a brand you trust... Nvidia are good... i would also recomend that you choose windows xp as your os... it will run faster... and all games you mentioned will run fine with dx9... only Vista has dx10 but with your budget i'm guessing your choice in vid card will only hinder your experience with dx10... not a problem tho.. vista is totaly over rated in my opinion.. if i were to use it in the future it will only be that games may not run on earlier versions of dx = Direct-X

I thought the GPU I was getting was a pretty decent one, the 8800GTs are only a little more expensive, and this is a newer chipset. Shouldn't this play dx10 fine? I mean not highest resolutions and such, but I am also using a pretty small monitor.
 
i think your going to need a better processor if you plan on playing crysis.

i could be wrong but i see it been a bottleneck.
