well after the install of sp2 i restarted and windows wouldnt boot. i cant even boot it in safe mode....
any ideas what is wrong?

im thinking of installing XP agian but i dont want to loose my files, can i install it without formatting the HDD? just install xp over the old copy?

fast help please....

Same thing happened to me but a lil diff. For some reason, my xp went into 2000 mode... and asked for a login.. lmfao.. no idea wtf why it did that..

i had to reinstall windows.

you will prob end up doing that if you can't even get into your desktop to scout the problem, nor log in as safe mode.

it was stuck at the windows xp screen with the loading bar at the bottom.

to anyone with this problem as well this is what i did...

install another copy of windows over the top without formatting the HDD. it will tell you that a copy of windows is already installed. you have to tell it to install to another directory, i just called it
c:\windows2.

the files in my documents will still be there. now i am going to do another clean install.

one piece of advice. ALWAYS LET PROGRAMS FINISH INSTALLING, ESPECIALLY SP2
