Hi, I'm having a really strange problem here, I use a laptop downstairs for my internet browsing which i connect to an Ethernet cable, about a week ago it stopped working, however the upstairs computer connects fine via cable.

I have tried the following so far
-resetting the router/modem multiple times
-brought my laptop upstairs and connected it straight to the modem with the cable that works on the upstairs computer, it still didn't work.
-system restore

Also I can't connect wirelessly to the router, even though there is internet connection in the modem going into the router. I CAN connect wirelessly to other public networks.

Thanks for any help, I'm starting to get frustrated.

Sounds like you need to check your wireless settings on your router and confirm that they are setup correctly on your computer... sounds like maybe the wrong sort of security method is selected, or perhaps your key is wrong... as for the ethernet port, can you confirm that it is enabled? When you plugged the cable in, did you get a notification message in the bottom right of your screen? When it is plugged in, go to Control Panel, and try setting up a wired network...

It's possible you may be infected and its blocking internet access. Have you scanned with malware/virus programs?

If you've connected your PC directly to the modem with a network cable that is tested to work, then you have issues that could be outside of your pc scope. I would say, however, to update your device drivers first. From there I would make sure that your modem is getting connection from your ISP.
