Cannot connect to the Internet- Ideas?

Hello everyone

I just purchased a refurbished laptop, and installed Win XP on it.

Then, when i plug the Ethernet cable in it, there is no Internet.
When i type in 'ipconfig /all', it doesn't show me any information (MAC Address,...).

Do i need to install anything else in order for the Internet to work, or anyone have other ideas on what i need to do next?

You generally need the ethernet adapter drivers, if you haven't installed them you will gete nothing
 
Visit device manager (located under control panel -> performance and maintenance -> system -> hardware) and see if there are any devices with yellow or red next to them, or if there are any unknow devices. If any of these are there then it's likely you're missing necessary drivers for some of your hardware and could explain why your ethernet adapter isn't working properly.
 
as with above posts, check for unkown devices. search the manufacturers website for your lappy and get the ethernet drivers.
