Cannot find Windows Explorer

If I go to Start/Run/Explorer, I end up with Local Disk (C):. Same thing if I use Start/All Programs/Windows Explorer. If I use Start/All Programs/ Accessories/Windows Explorer, I end up with My Documents. From either (C) or My Documents I can find no way to open Windows Explorer. I can find where Windows Explorer is on the HD and how much space it uses but I cannot find any way to open it. Thanks for any help.

When you first open Windows Explorer with either the MyComputer desktop icon or going to "Start>Programs>Accessories>" you simply right click on either and choose the properties screen. The "find target" button will open a second window of it's own with the file highlight as you will see in the screen capture here. The W.E. shortcut is simply an extension of the main explorer.exe file Windows depends on.

The same was seen here. If you posted that while being logged in somewhere that will often see this happen. The actual file itself is not W.E. but "explorer.exe" found in the "C:\Windows" directory. The W.E. icon is a shortcut to "%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe" with systemRoot being the root of the OS/Windows folder. What happens when you double click the "explorer.exe" file found in "C:\Windows\"? You open Windows Explorer there!

As you will see from the capture here the explorer.exe file is a Windows Application when noting the properties seen on it when double clicking on it opens a second explorer window immediately.

Please bear with me. I seem to have mindblock on this W.E. thing.
When I click on explorer.exe in C:/Windows, I get My Docs just as you show in the capture you sent. But, what exactly is it I click on in that window to take me to the next window with all the .exe files - the right hand capture you sent? Thanks.

That's the direct way to open up an explorer window by double clicking on the explorer.exe file itself. This was done by first opening the MyComputer icon found on the desktop. That is also integrated with Windows Explorer in some ways where you can open any drive installed in order to browse the contents on it. By double clicking on the icon seen for the C drive there you open the view up for browsing the folders on your hard drive.

OK I get it. I started all this trying to fix a printer problem. HP told me to make changes deep in "spool". I was looking for a more direct entry although I could get there via C:/system32/etc. I may be thinking of a display that was used with 98 - not sure. Anyway, thanks a lot for the lesson.
