Cannot Format!

Ok here is my story, when i first installed windows on my new pc, i pluged in more than just my HD n DVD drive there fore, my main boot drive was drive H...-.-.
Today i just reformatted it because it would be more convenient in the future.

Now: i cannot format my main drive because it says my volumn is in use, window XP is on it so i cannot format (im sure this is a common problem?). How can i fix this?

Details:
(the h:// is a partition 100gb, i now use c:// from my other 500gb partition. Which means i am not using the newly installed XP sp2.)
-tried rebooting, installing xp and using that blue screen to delete and reformat, does not work
-tried right clicking the drive and format NSTS (quick format does not allow, slow formating errors at 99%)

Please any solution?

-Thank You

You can't format your windows drive while inside windows, never could, never will. You need to boot to an install cd to actually format the drive or slave it in another system to do it.

what do u mean boot to an install cd? you mean reinstall windows on it or ?? not quite to sure.

also whats slaving it to another system?

Booting to XP install cd would let you format the drive.

Slaving it in another system, means taking the drive out of your computer and putting in another system to format it.

If you are trying to reinstall the operating system on that drive then just boot to the install cd for whatever OS you are trying to install.

I just reread your original post. It almost sounds like you have boot files on the partition that you are wanting to format, you can't do that. Or its possible you have a bad drive.
