Yes, Yes.

I guess I tried everything I know how to do thats why I am here now:D

I have a computer and it cannot access the internet!

I even went out to the computer store and installed a new ethernet card (PCI)

Have all the drivers loaded and the tc/ip settings are set to automatic!

Restarted DSL modem and router and still nothing?

Any insight is always appreciated! Thanks!!!!:D

That's not a very good description of your problem. Can you give us some more details?

Did it work and now it doesn't? Is this the only computer on your network? Only computer with the same problem?

The more info the better.

Are you behind a router? If so have you configured for your modem?
If applies, have you setup the username and password if your modem is ppoe?

Sorry for being so vague.

I tried it at a friends house behind a router and still the same luck. This computer has never been on DSL and before that it has been on dial-up.

The computer is on xp home service pack 2.

ppoe, not sure.

Typically when i set my router up in the past i would type in the address and it would go right to my router settings, but no luck wont even go to my router settings.

any help?:)

Sorry for being so vague!

phatasian

what computer are u using rite now? how old is ur new computer the model might not match with the new ethernet card

Sorry once again for being so Vague. I am doing this for a friend and thought I could figure this one out. The computer in my sig is not the computer I am having troubles with.

Computer Specs:
OS: XP Home SP2
RAM 256MB:rolleyes:

ethernet Card installed with proper driver installation.

I have a feeling its something to do with Static address or DHCP. But I have no clue what to do with either of the two.

I will post a result of the CMD 'ipconfig/all' results when I power it up.
Thanks for all your help!:)

HELP!:D

Try this:

Start - control panel - network connections - right click on the connection you are using - properties - click on internet protocol TCP/IP then click properties - click obtain IP address automatically

Test and report back.

Your DNS is setup wrong, call your ISP for the right DNS settings.
You haven't got a gateway either so that means you are not connected properly to your router/modem.

If you are on a cable modem it should connect to the IT automatically and you should be able to surf, if it's dsl you might need to set up a connection in windows and go online with it, dialing the modem.

Call your ISP and ask them to assist you with this, they should know.

Thank you both for the replies.

axgrinder: Have tried that setting and still does not work.

Larry: Thank you for your insight, I am going to attempt to load the software it came with my ISP package before I try to start to talk to India.

In that software bundle there must be something written into it that saves these settings.

Any other ideas are always welcome:D

Thanks.
