Cannot Install any 64 bit operating system on a computer that can handle 64 bit.

Ok, need someones help here. I have a custom built desktop that I use to be able to install and run XP-64 bit. When the computer was built 4 years ago, I had both XP-32 and 64 bit installed on the same drive, which was partitioned into three equal units. I later removed the XP-64 bit operating system cause I did not need it and not much support in terms of device drivers.

I recently bought Windows 7 64 bit and each time I try to install it I get a blue screen and each time a different code. I also tried to re-install the XP-64 and it now will not install giving me the blue screen also.

Here is what I can do, I can install both Windows7 and XP both in 32 bit versions. Both operating systems install with no problems.

This is what I have tried, thus far. Testing the 4 GB of RAM, Switching video cards, installing on a different harddrive, all of these test have failed to install any 64 bit operating system. I am at a loss, makes no sense to me other than having a problem somewhere in the Processor or mother board??

The processor is Intel Core 2 Quad 9400 Quad-Core 2.66 GHz

The motherboard is GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel.

How can I determine what is at fault here?? It seems strange that XP-64 bit use to install and now no 64 bit operating system will install.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Where exactly does it give you the blue screen? Can you boot off the DVD? Does it start actually installing before it gives you the error? Did you try formatting the drive before installing?

Yes, I am able to boot from the DVD, the BIOS comes up first, then boots from the DVD. This I went into BIOS and set the DVDROM as first boot.

I did also reformat the hard drive.

The Blue screen occurs in Windows 7 is trying to install. I am able to get past the accept terms and get past where windows 7 ask for custom install. Each time it will be differnt where the blue screen occurs?? Maybe 20% install or it has been as high as 45% complete?? each time is not the same as the previous/

Thanks

Bad hardware is most likely the cause there. If it couldn't install 64-bit, it would error out after loading Windows install files, saying that the machine wasn't 64-bit compatible. I would test your RAM and hard drive. Also be sure that the only things plugged in are mouse, keyboard, monitor, and Ethernet cable. Remove any extra devices when installing Widows.
