Cannot locate removable device

Hi,

I am new to the forum and was hoping somebody could help me. A few months ago I installed a dvd/rw on my pc. It seems to be working fine but I have now got an mp3 player and when I connect it via a usb port it does not pick it up as a removable device. I have tried it on my pc at work and it works fine on there. I have a horrible feeling it is something to do with this. I was hoping somebody could give me some help and advice. I am no IT expert but I am confident to take the casing off and have a look. Any help is much appreciated.
 
try installing the drivers for the usb ports also try reconnecting the cable until it does appear coz sometimes it just doesnt register
 
Thanks for your help. How do I install drivers for USB port? It recognises the mass storage device in device manager but it doesn't show the device on e drive. Also when it is connected to my pc through USB port it stops other programmes running and when I disconnect it the programmes start running normally again.
 
are the usb ports integrated with your mobo if so get your mobo cd and then install the usb drivers
if its a pci usb card it should come with a drivers cd for you to install it
 
the drivers for usb ports may be the problem like robina_80 said .the drivers are on ur motherboard cd
 
Thanks once again for the advice. I don't think I have the cd for the motherboad to install the drivers. Is it possible to download them from somewhere? What puzzles me is that for the last couple of years I had an external cd/rw and that connected no problem as an e drive. Now trying to get this mp3 player to work is a real pain.
 
yeah do you know your motherboard make and model number if so go to the manufacturers web site and search for your mobo and download the drivers
