Can't Access FILES!!!!!!

I have a 80GB Western Digital IDE HDD that was running XP Home SP2 but which stopped working before I could back-up the files. I freshly installed windows on a brand-new 250GB Seagate IDE HDD which runs fine. However, there are some other files on the other HDD that I desperately need. I'm able to explore the WD HDD but since the files were in the administrator profile, it says that access is denied. I have tried numerous times and failed to repair the windows installation but nothing works. Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm running administrator on the new windows installation on the Seagate 250GB HDD but i need files that are in the administrator profile on the defective installation on the Western Digital 80GB HDD and it seems I can't access these files without starting XP on the 80GB HDD, which is impossible

try booting up with a live knoppix cd. it worked for me when the same thing happened.

boot from the cd, explore the drives, and copy whatever you need to wherever you want, flash, other hdd, etc.

cd image, just burn and boot:
