Can't Access secure sites??? Why might I ask?

Every time I try to login into a secure sight like my bank or to fill out an online application, or my girlfriends bank i get a page can not be displayed??
I don't think its my firewall... maybe my ssl settings?? What to do.. shoud i reinstall internet explorer? PLease help..

What type of connection?? I called a help line and was told to get Ad Aware download. I have found lots of stuff that can be dangerous to my pc after scanning was done. What should I do next?

Nothing will be dangerous per se but some ad-ware suppported programs will cease to work if the adware is removed (ad-aware tells you about this)
