I was able to re-install windows xp home after I got a virus that gave me no other chose. After I installed windows I noticed that in ad/remove programs there are NO programs, also I cant get on the internet, also my screen is locked at 16bit colour, I cant get 256bit so I cant change the screen RES, its locked at 1600 x 800. Anyway the main problem is I cant access the internet. Please advise, thank you

You need to install drivers. Assuming you used a disc, you should also have a disc for drivers and what not. If you do not, we need to know your computers brand and model to further help you.

is there anyway the drivers can be found within windows, I remember before when I had to reinstall windows and I had the same problem, and I found the drivers on the pc, but I forgot what file to look into.

by the way, I found a disk that came with my dell pc, I put it in and after installing something I looked at my add/remove programs and I see the driver intel 537EP V9x DF PCI Modem, but I still cant get on the internet, and in my connections I dont see any, Im using broadband.

goto start, computer, right click computer then properties the device manager. look for yellow exclamation or all if ya choose and right click device and find update auto. its there.

find updates automatically does not always work some times you need to go to the manufacturer website for your motherboard or system

I did that, found the ethernet controller device with the yellow ?

I tried the auto update/install but it said could not find the software

it found the hardware but not the software. Where do I find the driver for the Ethernet Device??

Use the link eliminator gave and download the drivers on a second computer then transfer them to yours and install the driver.

on another note you did say you installed on the computer before. guessing its the same one. is this a laptop or desktop. something else maybe the battery on the motherboard and may be loosing the setting. if its been maybe 3 yrs your about due. likely a button battery and maybe a 2032.
just another thought.

Here, to make it easier on you.

Sound driver - http://support.dell.com/support/dow...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=122481

chipset - http://support.dell.com/support/dow...&dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=70069

Ethernet driver - http://support.dell.com/support/dow...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=103900

Video driver - http://support.dell.com/support/dow...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=137459

Download these drivers to a usb flash drive or to a cd and then run each file so that it installs the driver. I'm not sure if thats the right video driver or not as there are 2 others listed for that model. Install the chipset driver first.
