Can't Burn DVD'S

I can no longer burn DVD's. A while ago everything worked fine and then BAM! When I put a blank DVD into my drive the display in "My Computer" changes from DVD- R/RW Drive F: to CD Drive F: and tells me that there are 0 bytes on the disk and 0 bytes free. On another website I read some posts that leaded to the possibility that my drive was cooked.(NEC model ND 3500A) So after un-installing and reinstalling the drive, clearing low level filters, changing the IDE cable and trying MANY diffrent types of third party software with no luck I decided to spend the $40 and get a new DVD burner. (Memorex MRX 525G) I put the new drive in, Reinstalled Windows, Installed the software and discovered the same bloody problem. Can somebody PLEASE HELP ME !!

I am using Maxell DVD -R's from the same package that I was using before I had this problem. I burned prob. 15 disk's with no issues.
 
You probably do not have the "Enable recording on this drive" option checked in the device properties. Right click the drive in question, then click the Recording tab. Is the "Enable recording on this drive" box checked? If not, do so. Hit apply, and then you should be able to use it as a burner again.
 
When I disable, and left click the icon, a dialogue box pops up and says F:/ is not accessable. Incorrect function. When I enable, left click (with a blank DVD in the drive) it opens a new window with the heading CD Drive(F:). With no media in the drive it does the same with the heading DVD Ram Drive (F:).
 
Have you installed any other software after this fresh install of the OS?

Also, you mentioned that these are IDE drives. Do you have the burner on it's own cable, and is it set as Master?
 
The only software that I installed after the OS is nero 9. I currently have both optical drives on one cable with the burner set as master and the CD ROM as slave. I tried the burner on its own cable with the CD ROM removed and still the same. I even replaced the cable with a new one.
